The Governments new insulation ECO+ scheme could save you up to £310 a year on your energy bills.
The Government have said they will spend £1bn from spring next year on a new grant to help homes that are in lower council tax bands and that have low energy efficiency ratings. Households that do not currently benefit from any other government support will be able to upgrade their homes insulation with the new ECO+ scheme.
Helping home owners to fund low-cost insulation measures like loft insulation and cavity wall insulation, this new grant will help households to lower their energy bills and keep their homes warmer. Homes with poor insulation find they can lose up to 45% of their heat and find it difficult to maintain the indoor temperature.
This new ECO+ scheme will enable thousands of home owners to improve their homes insulation saving them hundreds of pounds each year on their energy bills, as well as creating jobs across the country.
Who can receive the new ECO+ Scheme?
The new ECO+ Scheme will be available to all homes with an energy efficiency rating of D or below, whether your home is private, rented or social housing and homes that are covered by council tab bands A to D.
If you don’t know what your homes energy efficiency rating is, you can check using our EPC rating checker here.
The ECO+ Scheme is aimed at the least energy efficient homes in lower Council Tab bands, as well as supporting the most vulnerable.
How do I check if my home is eligible for the new ECO+ Scheme?
You can check your homes energy efficiency rating using the Warmer Solutions EPC Rating Checker, it will tell you how energy efficient your home is and what your current energy efficiency rating is, as well as the potential rating you can achieve. In order to qualify for the new ECO+ Scheme your home needs to have an EPC rating of D or below and be in the lower Council Tax bands.

With 54% of all homes in the UK falling into the EPC rating D and below there will be a significant number of households who will benefit from this new scheme, helping home owners save hundreds of pounds on their energy bills by installing low-cost insulation such as loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.
If your home is eligible for the ECO+ Scheme your energy supplier will do a survey on your house and pay for the improvements.
When is the ECO+ Scheme available?
The ECO+ Scheme will run from spring 2023 for up to 3 years and will help hundreds of thousands of homes receive new loft insulation and cavity wall insulation saving them around £310 a year on their energy bills.
What is the ECO+ insulation scheme?
The ECO+ insulation scheme is a grant for eligible households of up to £1,500 for household insulation such as loft insulation or cavity wall insulation and is part of the Governments new Energy Company Obligation and ECO+ scheme.
Aimed at homes that do not currently benefit from existing government support, about 80% of the fund will help eligible households upgrade the insulation in their homes, helping to reduce their energy bill, with the rest of the fund helping the most vulnerable households and those who are in fuel poverty.
The ECO+ insulation scheme begins in Spring 2023 and run for three years and will benefit homes that have an EPC rating of D or below and be in the lower council tax bands of A to D.
It is expected that households that take part in the ECO+ Scheme could save around £310 a year on their energy bills.
What is an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)?
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a document that tells you how energy efficient a property is giving it a rating from A very efficient to G inefficient and will show you the energy use and typical energy costs as well as recommendations about how you can reduce energy use and save money on your energy bills.
Your property can become more energy efficient if you install insulation such as loft insulation or cavity wall insulation.

What type of insulation does my home need?
Depending on your type of property you will typically need the following to make your home more energy efficient.
- Loft insulation
- Roof insulation
- Cavity wall insulation
- Draught proofing
- Floor Insulation
- Solid wall insulation
Typically a quarter of your households heat is lost through the roof in an uninsulated or poorly insulated home. You should make insulating your loft or roof a priority, as this is one of the most effective ways to reduce heat loss and reduce your heating bills.
Many homes across the UK have a cavity wall structure which is a gap between the inner and outer walls, making it an ideal area for wall insulation to be installed, saving you up to 35% on your heating bills each year.
