Government's Clean Heat Grant 2022

By |

With the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme ending, the Government are encouraging a greener way of living with their new Clean Heat Grant 2022, also known as the Boiler upgrade scheme, which hsa been created to improve homes in England, Scotland and Wales by replacing their existing small domestic buildings with lower carbon heating systems.

Within this scheme, £5000 grants will be given to homes in the uk, promoting clean heat from modern and eco-friendly technologies such as heat pumps. The Government have a budget of £450 million available for this grant and have planned for it to last three years.

But what's the goal?

The Government have set a target of installing 600,000 heat pumps every year for the next six years with the objective to reduce the carbon emissions given off by homes that are still relying on fossil fuels to warm their homes.

Do you qualify for the Government's Clean Heat Grant 2022?

See if your property meets the criteria and therefore eligible for the grant:

  1. The property holds a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that has been issued within the last ten years. An EPC informs us on how energy efficient your home is by giving it a graded rating; starting with A, highlighting it as very efficient to G meaning least, helping to understand the carbon emission released from the building and how this is impacting the current cost. - Check your EPC rating here
  2. Must be an exisiting or custom-made building. New builds are not eligible due to the increase in price and complexity of switching to low carbon heating in retrofits compared to new properties.
  3. A property requires an assessment and at least one quote from a certified installer. The homeowner is responsible for obtaining this voucher whilst the installer oversees redeeming it, ensuring the voucher is used correctly.
  4. Finally, there must not be any recommendations on the valid EPC for loft and wall insulation.

How can you apply?

Simply apply for the Clean Heat Grant after completing at least one quotation with a verified installer. After the voucher is issued, you have three months to apply the voucher and install one of the included technologies which are either biomass boilers or air source heat pumps.

This time allowance is extended to six months for time consuming bigger installation projects such as water source or ground source heat pumps.

If you are looking to improve your home's energy efficiency and reduce your heating bills, do not hesitate to get in touch with our professional team and find out more about these modern heating technologies before the scheme begins.
